Two Republican candidates for Congress, George Holding and Robert Pittenger, met with credit unions this week. Both secured the Republican nomination, Holding for the 13th District and Pittenger for the 9th District, and are likely to win in the General Election in November.
Holding is running to replace Congressman Brad Miller, who did not seek re-election. The 13th District stretches from Raleigh to Rocky Mount to Goldsboro. “We were able to bring together credit union representatives from across the district,” explained Dan Schline, SVP of Association Services with the League. Holding learned about that nearly 300,000 credit union members living in the 13th District and heard directly from representatives of Coastal FCU, Freedom FCU, and NC Community FCU at the meeting that took place at Coastal FCU in Raleigh.
Pittenger won the Republican nomination after a hard fought run-off on July 17. A former state senator, Pittenger spent time on Friday, August 17 learning more about credit unions and their work in Charlotte. Representatives from Charlotte Metro CU, Carolina Postal CU, and Truliant FCU joined for the meeting with Pittenger. The 9th District is being vacated by Congresswoman Sue Myrick who retired after serving in the House for 18 years.
“We’re going to have some new faces in North Carolina’s congressional delegation,” said Schline. “We are pleased that we had the opportunity to introduce two of the folks we’re likely to be working with in the coming year to local credit unions.”
