|CUNA's launch of the Don't Tax My Credit Union web site and Social Media campaign will be one of the many updates President/CEO Bill Cheney discusses at the Governmental Affairs Forum.
Among the distinguished speakers at this year’s Annual Meeting Governmental Affairs Forum is CUNA President/CEO Bill Cheney and the timing of his update could not be more critical as credit union prepare for tax reform.
Cheney will provide an update on the tax reform debate in Washington, DC as well as some of the other legislative priorities CUNA is focused on. With regard to tax policy, the clear consensus seems to be that all options are on the table in Congress as lawmakers are considering a “blank piece of paper” approach. As the CUNA president has shared, “it is time for credit unions to go on offense" and urges credit unions to educate their members about the taxes credit unions pay, the ones they do not pay, and why.
CUNA has worked to create a national grassroots campaign aimed at telling Congress to “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” with the recent launch of its public campaign website, www.DontTaxMyCreditUnion.org as well as its Credit Union Tax Advocacy Toolkit to help credit unions prepare to preserve their tax exemption.
“We have been working with North Carolina credit unions on the member education components since late-January in preparation for tax reform both at the state and federal levels,” noted Dan Schline, NCCUL’s SVP of Association Services. “We appreciate the great work that many credit unions have already done in talking with their members about this issue and know there is still much work to come.”
Cheney will also share more on the Unite for Good campaign launched by CUNA in February.
