Welcome Federal Credit Union, Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, and the engineering firm Stewart deconstructed a small home located on property that will be the future home of the Main Branch of the Credit Union. Welcome Federal Credit Union staff, Stewart staff, and Habitat staff participated in the deconstruction project that involved dismantling the structure by hand.
The materials recovered from the home were transported to the Habitat ReStores in Cary or Raleigh and sold to the public at discounted prices. All proceeds from the Habitat ReStores support affordable housing for community neighbors in need. By donating the home to Habitat’s Deconstruction Program, the Credit Union was able to divert reusable materials away from landfills while helping the community build affordable homes through Habitat for Humanity.
Cynthia Jenkins, President/CEO of the Credit Union said “Welcome Federal Credit Union is pleased to make this contribution to Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. We are excited about our presence and investment in the Morrisville community and to open our new Main Branch on this site.”
