1. Taxation Update - A recent nationwide poll found that 86% of credit union members do not know that credit unions do not pay corporate income tax. What does this mean? We need to do a better job educating credit union members! Members that understand our tax status and structure are more likely to support us! The League has developed sample newsletter articles to help credit unions talk about the tax status and educate members and staff on this key issue. Don't hesitate to contact Pam Melton at email@example.com for assistance with sample communications.
2. Risk Management Updates - The League is committed to helping credit unions deal with the complex regulatory environment, and we also help credit unions communicate with one another in the important area of Risk Management. The League has a Fraud Alert Forum that helps Risk Management staff at credit unions to securely share ongoing scams and fraud schemes. Also, there will be a meeting of the Risk Management Council in Charlotte on May 22. The topics to be covered include Enterprise Risk Management, Vendor Management and Contract Clauses. If you would like more information about accessing the forum or attending the meeting, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
3. NCCUL Annual Meeting - Registration is now open for the 78th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League in Pinehurst. Special guest speakers include CUNA President Bill Cheney, and former American Airlines FCU CEO John Tibbets. We’re also thrilled to announce that there is a two day Future Leaders Forum for young professionals! This year, Brent Dixon of the Filene Research Institute will facilitate this two day learning event. For more information, please visit the Professional Development Center, or contact Lauren DeAngelis at the League (email@example.com).
