September Updates

Posted on September 14, 2012

The League exists to help credit unions succeed. We want to partner with credit unions in NC, support you and help you in any way that we can. To that end, here are three things that we’re working on at the League to help credit unions.

Compliance/Compliance Call A flurry of new regulations and regulatory changes continue to be issued by the CFPB and NCUA, and more are on the way in the months to come. The League has two attorneys on staff specifically dedicated to helping credit unions understand and properly comply with these changes. Jeanne Couchois and Dana Campbell of the Compliance & Risk Management Department are available via phone (dial 800-822-8859, and press 2) and email, and also host a free 30 minute quarterly compliance call to update your staff on key events and approaching deadlines. The next call takes place at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 18th. To register for this call, please click here.

Call for Comments - TILA & RESPA Disclosures The League is still in the process of gathering feedback on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s proposal to combine TILA and RESPA mortgage disclosures. This proposal impacts both application and closing disclosures and seeks to simplify loan terms and cost information for consumers. The CFPB has indicated it needs detailed explanations about what financial institutions would need to do with these proposed changes so that the agency understands the compliance steps required and hopefully in turn will provide sufficient time to comply. Comments are due to the CFPB by November 6 and the League’s Regulatory Department will be drafting a letter. Please reach out to Lauren Whaley or Dana Campbell for additional information on how you can get involved.

Fall CUES Fall CUES returns to Asheville October 4-5. This year, the sessions have been extended to provide staff with important updates and learning opportunities. Sessions include a focus on Asset Liability Management (ALM) Modeling and Loan Portfolio Management plus a Regulatory Update. Fall CUES also will shine a spotlight on How to Develop Leadership Programs in Your CU. There is still time to register. Please contact Lauren DeAngelis for more information, or click here go to the meeting page.
