The decision by the Credit Union’s Board of Directors was not made lightly. Genice DeCorte, CEO of HealthShare Credit Union, says board members believed the existing name did not truly reflect the organization’s field of membership. We have not merged or partnered with any other financial institution, group or credit union. We just felt the need to align our name with our current membership and strategic plan.

Ken Thomas has been appointed to the position of Manager of Learning and Development for United Federal Credit Union. In addition, UFCU announced that Michael Mortimore has been appointed to the position of Director of Underwriting.

The site is regarded as a prime location with nearly 37,000 vehicles passing by daily. “We have been looking for the past two years to find the perfect site to relocate our existing branch. The proximity to our existing branch and the VA Hospital, the ease of accessibility and the growth in the immediate area will provide exceptional opportunities for us.” stated Lori Thompson, President/CEO.

Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union presented a $3,000 check to Support Military Spouses, the nation’s only program dedicated to collecting and distributing shoebox gifts to military spouses. The Shoeboxes for Military Spouses event was held at the Crown Theatre last week.

Mountain Credit Union was chartered in April 1963 making 2013 a milestone for the local credit union as they celebrate 50 years of serving members and the Western North Carolina community. In honor of this special event the Board of Directors of Mountain Credit Union were presented a plaque from the North Carolina Credit Union Division at their April meeting.

State Employees’ Credit Union’s (SECU’s) First Time Homebuyer’s Mortgage Loan program has reached a milestone, with over $1 billion in loan balances. The program has now helped over 8,300 Credit Union members realize their dream of homeownership.

Nearly 80 people registered for Members CU’s second annual Wig Walk, a 2.5 walk/fun run benefiting the Wig Bank of Caldwell County that took place on Saturday, May 11th along the Lenoir Greenway. The walk brought in over $4,000 for the Wig Bank, a non profit cancer services center that provides prosthetic wigs for cancer patients, promotes the importance of cancer screenings, and provides funds to cancer patients for transportation to cancer treatment centers.

Supporting North Carolina’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) staff and member volunteers recently helped over 3,900 middle and high school students assess their competencies in marketing, entrepreneurship, career development, and leadership.

Last year was a milestone year for Charlotte Metro Credit Union in more ways than one. The credit union celebrated 50 years of serving the people of Mecklenburg County, but members – who are also shareholders – had even more reasons to celebrate.

Staff in SECU’s 248 branches creatively promoted the campaign with eye-catching displays. SECU staff also took the time to visit local schools and teach financial education concepts. The Challenge results? SECU opened 612 new youth accounts and over 17,300 youth deposited $3.15 million throughout the week!
