Coastal Federal Credit Union is accepting donations of gently used household items to be sold at its Share the Love Community Yard Sale on October 27, 2012. Donations will be accepted at Coastal’s 1000 Saint Albans Drive location on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. starting September 21th through October 25th.

Coastal Federal Credit Union has announced the launch of its new Student [Cu] Visa. The card is designed for young adults with no or limited credit history and touts the importance of establishing good financial practices when building credit.

Forty-two credit union professionals, including five from North Carolina, became Credit Union Development Educators (CUDEs) last week after being guided by eight dedicated program facilitators and mentors through the intensive Credit Union Development Education (DE) Training.

 In an effort to provide 5,000 holiday gift boxes for North Carolina soldiers deployed throughout the world, the Credit Union will be collecting items through October 31st in all 244 SECU branches statewide.

Latino Credit Union in collaboration with Democracy North Carolina will be registering voters at all Latino Credit Union branch locations across North Carolina. Bilingual volunteers from non-profit organizations Democracy North Carolina, El Cambio in Winston-Salem, El Pueblo, and the Latin American Coalition in Charlotte will register voters from Monday, September 24 through Friday, September 28 in an effort to increase voter turnout in the state.

Eastern Carolina Organics (ECO) today announced that it has secured $1.75 million in funding to transform an East Durham brownfields site into a new distribution center for its rapidly growing organic produce business. The renovated facility will also serve as an incubator for young businesses and organizations involved in local foods, natural products and community empowerment.

SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC reached a remarkable milestone recently --- providing its 100,000th guest stay since opening its doors in March 2008. A place of housing, healing, and hope, SECU Family House offers affordable, safe, home away from home accommodations to UNC Hospital’s adult critical care patients and their families.

Fifty-four civic and community leaders from across the state have been accepted to form the 2012-2013 class for Leadership North Carolina, the state’s premier leadership engagement program. Creighton Blackwell, Coastal FCU Manager of Business Development and Community Relations, is among those selected to attend.

It came to the attention of the credit union that a member by the name of Sydney, age 4, was suffering from Rett syndrome. She is in need of a service dog to detect oncoming seizures and improve her quality of life. These types of dogs receive special training, which is very expensive.
