It came to the attention of the credit union that a member by the name of Sydney, age 4, was suffering from Rett syndrome. She is in need of a service dog to detect oncoming seizures and improve her quality of life. These types of dogs receive special training, which is very expensive.

A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held in Wilmington, NC for the new “Marvin E. Roberts II Transitional Living Facility,” a rehabilitation housing center for men and women recently released from the correctional system.

Partnering with the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, SECU members via the SECU Foundation, provided a 0% construction loan to help build the James Street Group Living Dormitories, which serve as transitional housing for individuals recovering from substance abuse.

The Cooperative Council of North Carolina recently held its annual Cooperative Youth Leadership Conference for high school students at the NC FFA Center at White Lake, NC. Sponsored by cooperatives and agricultural organizations, over 40 students from across North Carolina attended the camp, enjoying a week by the lake.

The new appointments are an integral part of LGFCU’s volunteer-driveninitiative not only to educate people on the benefits of credit union membership, but also to relay feedback to the board of directors regarding available/potentially available products and services, delivery of service and member needs.

Coastal Federal Credit Union has announced their new Big Ticket Card. The new Visa credit card boasts six months interest-free financing on all individual purchases or balance transfers of $600 or more.

Allegacy Federal Credit Union announced that Ashley Kohlrus has been promoted to chief experience officer (CXO). She is responsible for the enhancement of member experience, alignment of the synergy culture and development for employees, internal communications and community relations.

Beginning on August 29, 2012, the North Carolina Credit Union League, in partnership with Mountain Credit Union, will host voter registration drives in each of Mountain CU’s seven branches. Pam Melton from NCCUL will be in each branch to assist in hosting these events.

Summit Credit Union has been located on Summit Avenue since 1977 and was originally the Credit Union’s headquarters. The building’s remodel was started in January 2012 with the office remaining open for business during the entire renovation. New features of the branch include a brand new waiting area, a member self-service call center, and a new walk-up ATM.
