Genworth U.S. Mortgage Insurance (USMI) presented United Federal Credit Union’s (UFCU) first mortgage underwriters with a Leadership Circle award. The designation was given to less than three percent of Genworth’s clients.

News from the CCUF: Carolinas Cup Golf Tournament Raises $60,000

Thank you to all of you who participated in the ninth annual Carolinas Cup held March 24-26 at the Ballantyne Resort. Once again your overwhelming generosity made this year’s event a huge success. The golf event combined with the auction evening raised close to $60,000 and will allow the North and South Carolina Credit Unions to once again co-sponsor a week of camp at Victory Junction.

But when Charlotte Metro Credit Union chose Charlotte artist Sharon Dowell to create an original acrylic painting for their lobby (and for a very limited edition 2012 annual report poster that will be given to members at the upcoming annual meeting), they got a local artist – with a national reputation.

In Memoriam: Tom Puckett, Chairman Emeritus & First Carolina Postal CU Employee

Tom Puckett, the chairman emeritus of Carolina Postal CU, passed away April 25 at the age of 91. Puckett was the credit union's original employee and in the early years ran the credit union from the top drawer of his desk at the post office.

Winston-Salem Federal Credit Union Free VITA Services Boost Member’s Bottom Line

Through the credit union's efforts in the 2013 Filing Season, members received a total of nearly $624,000 in refunds, including $347,028 in Earned Income Tax Credits, $40,807 in Child Tax Credits and $11,283 in Education Credits. More importantly, the credit union also saved members nearly $92,000 in preparation fees by providing the free service.

A Cash Mob is an organized event that encourages a group of people to patronize a local business to make purchases on a certain day or during a certain time period. The idea is to support the business itself and also to promote general community awareness.

Champion Credit Union Shares the Warmth with Western North Carolina

The credit union challenged the community to donate $10,000 to Mountain Projects Community Action Agency, who provides the heating assistance to residents in Haywood and Jackson counties. Champion agreed to match each donation made up to $10,000. Before December was over, that amount had been met. By the end of the challenge in February, the final amount raised was $30,087.84.
