CUNA Mutual Group and its new health care reform education partner, Digital Benefit Advisors, will host a webinar April 3, to help credit unions prepare for and succeed in a fast-changing environment created by the Affordable Care Act. Brad Pricer, senior manager, CUNA Mutual Group employee benefits, and Annette Bechtold, senior vice president, operations and strategic development for DBA, will present “Health Care Reform – Preparing for the New Normal,” at 10 a.m. CDT.
 

State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) has been honored with a national first place Louise A. Herring Award for Philosophy in Action by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for its Estate Planning Essentials (EPE) program. Designed to fill member needs for basic, affordable estate planning, the EPE program provides access to quality estate planning education, estate planning attorneys and affordable documents, including a will.

One of North Carolina's oldest credit unions marked its 85th anniversary of service this week. On Monday March 11, Greensboro Postal Credit Union met at Lawndale Baptist Church for its annual meeting. Members attended a brief business meeting and registered for tickets for door prizes and enjoyed refreshments.

The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors elected Chuck Purvis to fill a recent vacancy at their meeting on February 20, 2013.Mr. Purvis is also the former Chairman of the National Credit Union Foundation. He was a member of the Board of NCUF from 1995 to 2007.

On February 23rd, SECU opened its doors in all 248 statewide branches to support the FAFSA Day event sponsored by College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA) and SECU.

FBFCU and the AFFN gave $1,000.00 in prepaid AFFN ‘Thank You’ Cards to military families at the Fort Bragg Fisher House. These cards are in $50.00 denominations and may be used everywhere AFFN point-of-sale is accepted worldwide.

The National Credit Union Foundation and Carolinas Credit Union Foundation is inviting North Carolina credit unions to hold a “Financially Fit Day” on April 3, 2013 to kick off National Financial Literacy Month. This fundraising day is part of a relatively new campaign, entitled “Credit Unions Support Financial Education: Leading the Way to Financial Freedom”

Once a month, CMCU Branch Manager Malinda Mertz teaches a group of men and women crucial skills they’ll need to be financially self-sufficient. Participants in Mertz’s “How to Spend, How to Borrow, How to Save” class may have lost a job or their home, been through a divorce, suffered from spousal abuse or they may be transitioning from homelessness.

Partnering with the NC Rural Economic Development Center, Inc., State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) members via the SECU Foundation are pleased to fund the new SECU Public Service Intern program for college students from rural North Carolina.

State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is helping get North Carolinians back to work with the expansion of Contact Centers to rural areas of the State. For SECU members, the move maximizes usage of the existing facilities and equipment of their not-for-profit cooperative, while helping to mitigate costs associated with developing and operating separate contact center facilities.
