A crowd of supporters gathered recently in Newport, NC to celebrate the Ribbon Cutting and Open House of SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House (CCHH) --- the first inpatient hospice facility to serve the North Carolina five-county area of Carteret, Craven, Jones, Onslow and Pamlico. State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) members via the SECU Foundation, provided a $1 million grant in 2012 to the CCHH campaign to assist with the construction of the 10-suite palliative care facility. SECU Foundation representatives, Credit Union staff, and local SECU Advisory Board volunteers were on hand for the celebration, including SECU Foundation Board Chair Jim Barber, who spoke at the event.
Located at 100 Big Rock Weigh, SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House provides patients and their loved ones with the comforts of home and comprehensive support when their care can no longer be managed at home. “So many of us have been touched by hospice services, either through family or friends,” said Jim Barber. “The Hospice House will provide an invaluable need for terminally ill patients and their families in the Crystal Coast community, and SECU members are proud to be part of helping bring this facility to fruition.”
Sarah Strange, Chairman of the CCHH Board of Directors comments, “We want to thank the members of State Employees’ Credit Union for their commitment and generosity to SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House. We know this home will provide the opportunity for patients and family to cherish life’s every moment.”
