The NC Credit Union League honored American Partners FCU (APFCU) for its community involvement efforts in 2011. APFCU won the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. The credit union received the award June 11 at a recognition banquet at the 77th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. APFCU won in the $20 - $50 million asset category for its support of the Triad Flight of Honor, which honors the courage and sacrifice of World War II veterans by flying them to the World War II memorial in Washington, DC.
The credit union originally committed to sponsor one veteran on the Triad Flight of Honor by selling red “Love My Credit Union” hearts to members and visitors to their branch locations. However, APFCU reached this goal in just five days, and decided to commit to sending five veterans on the flight.
Through hard work and an “all hands on deck” commitment by the staff, the credit union reached this goal and as a result, five WWII veterans were able to be a part of an unforgettable day. Credit union staff also met the flight upon its return to the Triad in order to personally thank the veterans for their service to the nation.
APFCU will now compete in its asset category for the national Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. National winners will be announced by the Credit Union National Association later this year.
