The NC Credit Union League honored Carolina Postal Credit Union (CPCU) for its community involvement efforts in 2011. CPCU won the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. The credit union received the award June 11 at a recognition banquet at the 77th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. CPCU won in the $50 - $100 million asset category for its support of the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp out Hunger” Food Drive in the Charlotte and Piedmont Triad regions of NC.
The credit union funded a billboard campaign in the Piedmont Triad region to assist the letter carriers in their collection drive. In the Charlotte area, the credit union paid for the printing and delivery of 50,000 post cards to remind residents to support the food drive.
The Annual NALC Food Drive is an important source of food for America's Food Banks, with many receiving upwards of 80% of their yearly supplies from this one collection.CPCU’s efforts served to remind thousands of people about the drive, which is held in May each year. More importantly, the credit union’s commitment helped to feed the hungry in two of NC’s largest metropolitan areas.
CPCU will now compete in its asset category for the national Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. National winners will be announced by the Credit Union National Association later this year.
