The NC Credit Union League honored Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union (FBFCU) for its community involvement efforts in 2011. The credit union won the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. FBFCU received the award June 11 at a recognition banquet at the 77th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.

The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. FBFCU won in the $200 - $500 million asset category for its Warrior Transition Battalion Campaign held from April – December 2011.

“We are truly humbled to receive this award," said Fort Bragg FCU President/CEO David Elliott "but the fact is the award honors our true brave heroes that protect our freedom each and every day.”

The Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) at Fort Bragg provides command and control, primary care, and case management for warriors who have suffered injury or illness while serving as a member of the U.S. Army. The WTB helps these brave men and women return to active duty or civilian life.

The credit union raised more than $6,000 through the creation and selling of a special cookbook for the WTB Campaign. The credit union also held a series of other fundraisers, including dress down days and raffles. The credit union also received a donation for the campaign from the Armed Forces Financial Network.

The WTB Campaign proceeds were used to purchase gas and gift cards for the members of the WTB as they continued their rehabilitation. These efforts made life a little easier for these heroes.

FBFCU will now compete in its asset category for the national Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. National winners will be announced by the Credit Union National Association later this year.
