The NC Credit Union League honored Members Credit Union (MCU) for its community involvement efforts in 2011. MCU won second place in the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award category. The credit union received its award June 11 at a recognition banquet at the 77th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. MCU won second place in the $200 - $500 million asset category for its support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
MCU held a “Dunk the Boss” event on a hot summer afternoon in 2011 to raise money for JDRF. Credit Union President/CEO Jack Braswell and EVP Bob Donley both climbed into the tank and took on all staff and credit union members who were able to hit the bull’s-eye and dunk them. Braswell and Donley were among eight credit union staff who took a dip for a great cause.
These and other efforts by the credit union resulted in more than $6,700 being raised for JDRF, and called attention to the problem of diabetes among young people.
