The NC Credit Union League honored Piedmont Advantage Credit Union for its community involvement efforts in 2011. Piedmont Advantage won second place in the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award category. The credit union received its award June 11 at a recognition banquet at the 77th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. Piedmont Advantage won second place in the $100 - $200 million asset category for its support of the Flight of Honor, which honors the courage and sacrifice of World War II veterans by flying them to the World War II memorial in Washington, DC.
The credit union held a series of fundraisers through the year to help sponsor 13 veterans on flights originating out of Charlotte and the Piedmont Triad International Airport. These fundraisers helped give Piedmont Advantage staff, members and others the opportunity to express their thanks and appreciation for the heroism and sacrifices made by America’s greatest generation.
In addition to proving sponsorships on the two flights, three credit union staff members served as chaperones on the flights. These volunteers help ensure that all the needs of the veterans were met during the course of the one-day trip to and from Washington, DC.
