The NC Credit Union League honored Truliant Federal Credit Union (TFCU) for its community involvement efforts in 2011. TFCU won second place in the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award category. The credit union received its award June 11 at a recognition banquet at the 77th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. Truliant won second place in the over $1 billion asset category for its tax preparation services for members of modest means.
The credit union collaborated with Forsyth Working Families Partnership to assist people with getting the maximum refund possible on their tax returns. The credit union also provided information on how to save, spend or invest their refunds wisely.
Truliant staff committed countless hours to preparing returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The VITA program helps qualified taxpayers receive the maximum refund they are entitled to through programs such as the Earned Income Tax Credit. These efforts resulted in a 78% increase in the amount of refunds returned to hard working men and women from the previous year.
