In the fall of 2011 your Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors was given the opportunity to have the national spotlight shown on our two states. We were one-half of CUNA’s Leave-Behind project honoring the cities holding the 2012 National Conventions leading up to the elections of 2012. After careful consideration the Board agreed that your Foundation could be an integral part of the project—raising the funds needed to complete a renovation of the rooftop garden area of Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC. The $300,000 needed was raised from the generosity of credit unions in both of our states, individuals, and business partners and were 100% used for the project. The renovation was a welcome addition to the Levine Hospital and they are forever grateful. We are affecting families’ experiences every day! Your Board also wanted to make sure that we invested equally in each of our two states. So a review of the four Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in South Carolina was done to see where the greatest community impact could be made with another $300,000 raised. The decision was made to go to Greenville Health Systems Children’s Hospital. The funds raised for this side will go to renovating the lobby area of the Hospital, which today does not have any identification with the Children’s Hospital. Our goal is to transform the space into a family-friendly and inviting area that the community can enjoy, and give a warm and inviting introduction into the Children’s Hospital. On July 10 at 12:30 there will be a groundbreaking event held in the current Children’s Hospital lobby at GHS, located at 701 Grove Road, Greenville, SC. As of June 20 we still have close to $150,000 to raise to complete this side of the Project. If your Credit Union wants to get involved please contact John P. McGrail, President/CEO of the CCUF at 704.305.7587 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
