The NC Credit Union League honored Fort Bragg FCU (FBFCU) for its community involvement efforts in 2012. The credit union won second place for the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. The credit union received the award June 10 at a recognition banquet at the 78th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. FBFCU won the award in the $200 - $500 million asset category for its support of the Shoeboxes for Military Spouses Campaign, among many other community projects.
The Shoeboxes for Military Spouses Campaign honors the sacrifices military spouses make on the home front. Spouses are required to move, transfer jobs or schools, and assume full household responsibility when their loved one is deployed. FBFCU matched a $1,500 grant in support of the shoebox campaign, wrote letters of encouragement to be placed in the shoeboxes, and purchased mirrors to place in the 2,500 that were distributed.
The shoebox campaign is a powerful reminder to military spouses that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated. This project is one example of how FBFCU cares about the community, and their combined efforts reinforce the credit union’s mission of service, commitment and leadership.
