The NC Credit Union League honored Piedmont Advantage CU for its community involvement efforts in 2012. Piedmont Advantage won statewide honorable mention for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. The credit union received the award June 10 at a recognition banquet at the 78th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. Piedmont Advantage won the honorable mention in the $200 - $500 million asset category for its support of the Levine Children’s Hospital Rooftop Garden revitalization project, among many other community projects.
The Rooftop Garden project at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte was a national credit union effort designed to leave a lasting impact on Charlotte, site of the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The “leave behind” project calls attention to the cooperative nature of credit unions and their people helping people philosophy.
The credit union combined to raise more than $7,200 and exceeded its fundraising goal by nearly $2,000 in the process. Piedmont Advantage raised the money through a variety of efforts, including hot dog sales and dress-down days.
