The NC Credit Union League honored Telco Community CU (TCCU) for its community involvement efforts. TCCU won the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. The credit union received the award June 10 at a recognition banquet at the 78th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. TCCU won the award in the $50 - $100 million asset category for its involvement with the Western North Carolina Rescue Mission in 2012. The credit union assisted in the preparation and service of 150-200 meals each month.
Along the way, credit union staff involved their families and friends, raising awareness of the need for the mission’s service to homeless people. Credit union staff sold cook books, nuts, doughnuts and candy in an effort to support the work of the mission.
The credit union’s commitment to this project was one of many community-focused initiatives the credit union engaged in during the year. Telco Community Credit Union will now compete for the nationwide Dora Maxwell Award in its asset category. Winners will be announced by the Credit Union National Association late this year.
