Wayne Weddington, the Chairman of the Internal Revenue Employees’ FCU (IREFCU), won the prestigious Ronald J. Hutchins Award as the outstanding Credit Union Volunteer Person of the Year at the 78th annual meeting of the North Carolina Credit Union League (NCCUL). Weddington received the award, one of the highest honors bestowed to credit union people in North Carolina, in a special awards ceremony held Monday evening, June 10th in Pinehurst.
The Ronald J. Hutchins Award is given each year to a credit union professional and volunteer in order to recognize their outstanding accomplishments, time and effort given in support and promotion of the credit union ideal of people helping people. A committee made up of statewide credit union leaders selected Weddington to receive the award.
Weddington, the Chairman of IREFCU, joined the board of the credit union in 1979, he has served in many positions on the board as well as the CEO (Chief Financial Officer) of the credit union at times.
Over his 34 years of service, IREFCU has noted growth in assets and members, as well as product and service offerings to benefit the membership.
Weddington retired from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) after 38 years of service. He has been and continues to be active in a variety of volunteer projects that benefit the credit union movement as well as IRS employees. He has been an NTEU (National Treasury Employees Union) member for over 30 years and he is also a member of the NARFE (National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees.)
His volunteer dedication also extends to the Greensboro community and beyond. Wayne currently serves on the Board for his Homeowners Association in Myrtle Beach, SC; he has volunteered/served with the following: church choir, consistory member, deacon, mobile meals substitute and has coached several sports teams during his children’s younger years.
