The NC Credit Union League honored the Northwest Chapter of credit unions for its community involvement efforts in 2012. The Chapter won the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award and received its award June 10 at a recognition banquet at the 78th Annual Meeting of the NC Credit Union League.
The Northwest Chapter is composed of 14 credit unions in the areas surrounding greater Winston-Salem: Allegacy FCU, Carolina Postal CU, Emergency Responder’s CU, Hanesbrands CU, Lion’s Share FCU, Members CU, Piedmont Advantage CU, Premier FCU, TCP CU, State Employees' CU, Summit CU, Team & Wheel FCU, Truliant FCU and Winston-Salem FCU. Credit unions in the chapter hold regular educational meetings, networking events and work cooperatively to enrich the community.
The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. The Chapter participated in a variety of community events during the year in support of Hospice & Palliative Care Center.
The Chapter raised funds for Hospice through its annual golf tournament, as well as the Hospice Hope Run. Through these efforts, more than $10,000 was raised to assist Hospice in providing compassionate care to families in northwest NC.
The Northwest Chapter will now compete for the nationwide Dora Maxwell Award in the Chapter/Multi Credit Union Group category. Winners will be announced by the Credit Union National Association late this year.
