Tom Puckett, the chairman emeritus of Carolina Postal CU, passed away April 25 at the age of 91. Puckett was the credit union's original employee and in the early years ran the credit union from the top drawer of his desk at the post office.
"Tom loved his credit union," reflected CPCU President/CEO Joy Watts. In addition to operating the credit union in the early years, Puckett later served as chairman of the board from 1984 to 1997. Prior to becoming chairman, he served as board treasurer. The credit union awarded Puckett the chairman emeritus title in 2008.
"He guided this credit union from a small CU to over $40M in assets when he retired," Watts said. "We honored him with our first ever chairman emeritus because of his dedication to CPCU. His example is one that our Board strives to emulate."
In addition to his service to the credit union, Puckett won the Piedmont Chapter Person of the Year award. He retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service.
