The NC Credit Union League and the state's Credit Union Development Educators are pleased to announce that the 2013 Principles & Philosophy Conference is coming October 22-24, 2013! This annual event, which offers credit union leaders an opportunity to learn and more fully understand the strengths of the cooperative business model, will be held at the Graylyn International Conference Center in Winston-Salem.
The conference educates middle and senior level credit union managers about the history of the cooperative and credit union movements, shares the key differences between credit unions and banks, and offers attendees a chance to learn about the changes in the financial services industry.
"So many credit union employees have joined the movement from other industries in recent years, so it's important for credit unions to share the values and principles that set us apart," noted Ashley Ruffin of Local Government FCU, who is heading the volunteer committee that is planning the event. Ruffin added that this is especially true since so many senior level managers are retiring from credit unions. "The future success of the credit union movement depends upon staying true to the operating principles that make us great."
Larry Blanchard of CUNA Mutual Group, and Lois Kitsch of the National Credit Union Foundation, will facilitate the conference once again this year. Blanchard, who is a member of the Cooperative Hall of Fame, recently received the top U.S. Consumer Civilian Advocate Award from the Consumer Federation of America. Kitsch heads up the Credit Union Development Educator program for the NCUF and, among many outstanding career achievements, played an instrumental role in starting the credit union movement in Afghanistan.
