| Krissy Ball of Mountain Credit Union recently shared her story for a People Not Profit segment. She and her husband were unable to get loans due to low credit scores but through the assistance of the credit union, have gone on to a new level of success with their finances. |
As part of our commitment to help credit unions succeed, the NC Credit Union League added a special section on its newly-designed web site called People Not Profit. The goal of People Not Profit is pretty simple: spotlight the ways in which North Carolina credit unions remain true to their original mission.
People Not Profit features credit union members sharing stories about how their credit union has helped them. These segments include video clips as well as written testimonials. Other sections of People Not Profit share innovative credit union programs that have been developed to help members, and credit union community & volunteer efforts. These videos are also aggregated on a special You Tube Channel.
"The ultimate goal of People Not Profit is to collect & share these stories so that more credit union members and consumers discover the power of the credit union story," said Jeff Hardin, NCCUL's Director of Communications. "As cooperative organizations, credit unions are different from banks and other financial service providers. Illuminating those differences through the words and experiences of every day people can only help to connect more people to credit unions."

Hardin travels to credit unions across the state in order to meet with members, and videotape them telling their stories in their own words. "While we work with credit unions to recruit members who are willing to share their stories, the video shoots are not rehearsed at all. I just turn on the camera and ask people how their credit union has helped them." Hardin added that "it's remarkable how easy it is to get people to open up and share their stories. I can tell these folks are really passionate about their credit unions."
