NC Credit Unions Net $136,000 Through Sprint Program Participation!

Posted on January 11, 2012

League staff had a chance to play Santa in December, distributing nearly $136,000 to NC credit unions that participated in the Sprint Credit Union Member Discount Plan! Sprint provided the funds to credit unions for sharing information about the discount plan with their members in 2011.

“Income has been hard to come by for many credit unions in recent years,” noted Richard Ford, the League’s VP of Business Development. “The Sprint Credit Union Member Discount Plan allows credit unions to make money almost effortlessly, while offering members an opportunity to save money on their monthly phone bills. It definitely benefits both the credit union and members alike.”

Participating credit unions provided their members with a few promotional materials through the year including in-branch brochures, statement stuffers, newsletter articles and a banner ad with links to the Sprint program. Sprint provides all the materials to the credit union at no cost, and Ford notes that most credit unions can satisfy the requirements of the program with a few hours of time invested each year.

“It’s not a hard sell by any means,” Ford noted, “just general information provided to members about the opportunity to save money at Sprint.” The Sprint program allows credit union members to save 10% on their monthly bills, while business customers can save 15% each month. These discounts also extend to existing Sprint customers who identify themselves as credit union members.

Entering 2012, nearly 20 NC credit unions are promoting the Sprint discounts to their members. If you would like more information on the Sprint program, please contact Richard Ford at 800-822-8859, ext. 9069.
