Credit union volunteers from around the Triangle area are combining forces to participate in a "Co-op-A-Fair" event to be held in Durham from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Saturday, June 2. The credit unions are one of several cooperative partners participating in the free, family-oriented day of events.

The Co-op-A-Fair event is one of several planned along the route of the 2012 Community Tour, which kicks off in Miami May 12 and concludes in Portland, Maine on July 7. The Community Tour is the brainchild of Cabot Creamery Cooperative.

The 2012 Community Tour celebrates those who give their hearts, time and skills to strengthen communities. The two-month program includes a bike ride and follows the route of the East Coast Greenway and culminates in Portland, Maine, on the International Day of Cooperatives.

To honor this spirit of cooperation and community spirit, representatives from North Carolina's Team Little Guy will ride the entire 366 mile route in NC from May 29 - June 3. The NC portion of the route begins in Shallotte and ends on the border at Clarksville, VA. Team Little Guy will be raising funds for the Levine Children's Hospital Rooftop Garden Renovation project.

The 2012 Community Tour features eight major weekend stops in key cities along the northerly route including Miami, Charleston, Durham, Fredericksburg, Wilmington, New York City, Providence and Portland. Additionally, smaller weekday events will take place at stops along the route between the key cities. While events and activities will vary by market, the overall theme of cooperatives, community service and volunteerism will be the hallmark of each celebration.
