Mark Caverly Named to the CCUF Board of Directors
Mark Caverly of Local Government Federal Credit Union was named to the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors. Caverly serves as the Executive Vice President of LGFCU. Prior to serving in this capacity, Caverly held the position of LGFCU’s Vice President, Finance from 2001–2005, and was financial analyst for the Credit Union from 1997–2001. Before joining LGFCU, he spent two years as a staff auditor for Arthur Andersen, Chicago.
Along with the President, Caverly oversees the operations of the Credit Union, working to align its vision with the organization’s mission, “To improve the lives of our members.” Specifically, he is charged with oversight of Marketing; Human Resources; and Legal, Compliance and Risk Management for LGFCU.
His professional affiliations include serving as President of the Tarheel Chapter of the North Carolina Credit Union League (NCCUL), as well as serving on the NCCUL’s Governmental Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, and has earned his Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) certification from the National Credit Union Foundation.
Caverly has also had the distinct honor of testifying on behalf of the Credit Union National Association and the Electronic Payments Coalition before the House Financial Services Committee on H.R. 2382, the Credit Card Interchange Fees Act of 2009.
Caverly holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University. He currently resides in Raleigh with his wife and three daughters.
CCUF Board of Directors Re-elects Sponaugle, Sets Officers for 2014
The Annual Meeting of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation was held on Wednesday, October 23 at the Graylyn Conference Center in Winston-Salem, NC coinciding with the annual NC Development Educators’ Principles and Philosophy Conference. At that meeting, Brian Sponaugle, Chief Operating Officer for Greenville Federal Credit Union, was reelected to a three-year term to end in October of 2016. Sponaugle will also Chair the newly formed Advisory Council for the Foundation made up of credit union and business partner VIPs that will help advocate for the CCUF and its mission.
The Board also elected their Officers for the next year. Judy Tharp, President/CEO of Piedmont Advantage Credit Union, will continue as Chairperson of the Foundation. Jennifer Parker, Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Founders Federal Credit Union, will continue as Vice Chairperson, and John Slack, Chief Sales Officer for Palmetto Cooperative Services, will continue as Secretary/Treasurer. The rest of the Foundation Board of Directors include Michelle Bragg-Sharonview FCU, Steve Fowler-SCCUL, Beverly Gagne-SAFE FCU, Chuck Purvis-Coastal FCU, John Radebaugh-NCCUL, and Mark Twisdale-SECU.
GHS Children’s Hospital Fundraising More Than 2/3 Complete
Fundraising to complete the lobby renovation at the GHS Children’s Hospital has cleared the $200,000 hurdle! The goal of the Project remains $300,000 and as of October 31 more than $225,000 has been raised or is pledged to come in. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Project is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, at 10:30 am at the Hospital. If your Credit Union or organization would like to be recognized as an official donor to the Project please let John McGrail at the Foundation know at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than November 15. The GHS Children’s Hospital community is thrilled to have the support of North and South Carolina Credit Unions coming together to make this kind of impact on their patient families.
