Thanks to everyone who made GAC 2010 a success!

The CUNA GAC is the largest credit union conference and one that all credit unions should attend. 2010 will be the last GAC for Dan Mica as CUNA’s CEO. Visit the conference web page for updated information on speakers, entertainment, conference sessions and registration.
For 2010 the North Carolina Credit Union League has reserved a block of rooms for Sunday, Feb 21 through Thursday, Feb 25, 2010 for North Carolina GAC attendees. This year the hotel is the Grand Hyatt and will feature the always popular League Hospitality Suite and a shuttle to and from the convention center! Hike the Hill
Hike the Hill is a grassroots program sponsored by CUNA and the state leagues to provide credit unions with the opportunity to visit Washington to educate decision makers on credit union issues.
Attendees are prepped on what to expect in advance of each trip and upon their arrival. Once they arrive in Washington, credit unions are further prepared in issues briefings by CUNA's governmental affairs team. Briefing packets are also distributed and focus on issues specific to each state.
When credit unions participate in Hike the Hill, they demonstrate that credit union support has a real face, real concerns and real stories of how credit unions affect the lives of working Americans.
"Each year our Hike the Hill effort continues to grow and that makes a strong statement for the value of the program," says Richard Gose, CUNA vice president of political action and grassroots. "Once again, we have critical issues, such as pension reform, bankruptcy abuse reform, and Project Differentiation, to discuss with members of Congress. These visits are key to credit unions maintaining high visibility in Washington."

State Capital Connections: Communicating the Credit Union Difference
Each spring, credit union representatives visit Raleigh to meet with local members of the North Carolina General Assembly. Visits are organized by League Chapter and provide a great opportunity to get to know your lawmakers and to talk to them about how your credit union is serving consumers in your community.
Approximately 54 credit union representatives have participated in four League organized State Capital Connections trips last year. These representatives contacted 71 members of the NC House and 27 members of the NC Senate during their visits. In addition to the meetings at the legislative building, evening dinners sponsored by the League also allowed credit union participants to meet and network in a more relaxed setting.
“State Capital Connections has really helped me to network with legislators. By the end of State Capital Connections, people I had visited with early on were stopping me in the halls and saying hello. Having that recognition factor is key with our lawmakers, since one day we may have to speak with them about legislation that is very important to the credit union cause.” -NCCUL President John Radebaugh
Who Should Attend? Credit union management and board members willing and able to tell your credit unions story.
