Carolina Postal Credit Union Wraps Up Second Operation CU Troop (11/26/2007)

Now in its second year, Operation CU Troop grew dramatically. Ten credit unions partnered with Carolina Postal CU to collect items for overseas military members.
Operation CU Troop , the 2006 brainchild of Branch Manager Nelle Baldwin of Carolina Postal Credit Union, is wrapping up its delivery to the US Troops over the next few weeks.

Ten North Carolina credit unions partnered with Carolina Postal Credit Union this year, gathering food and toiletry items that are desperately needed, and greatly appreciated, by the troops serving over-seas.

A cargo van full of the food, razors, shampoos, socks, foot-powders, and batteries was delivered by credit union volunteers to the USO office at Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC on Veterans Day.

The additional donations of food & toiletries were gathered by credit union volunteers at Carolina Postal CU and are being sorted and packed into "gift packets" by Junior ROTC cadets at the Phillip O. Berry High School in Charlotte, NC. The credit union volunteers & Jr ROTC cadets will then deliver them to the Charlotte, NC USO office at the airport. Over 16,000 troops are coming through the Charlotte airport during the months of December and January. Christmas Cards, notes of support, and elementary student drawings are being included in each gift packet handed out to the service men & women.

"This year’s support was phenomenal by our members and our fellow credit unions’, stated Joy Watts, CEO of Carolina Postal Credit Union. "We are hoping to make this an even broader event next year after the rousing success of Operation CU Troop in 2007."
